History

In 1948, a young and visionary engineer named Laurent Gendron founded the first company in Canada to specialize in concrete reinforcing steel. Riding the highway building boom of the 1950's, Acier Gendron developed the capacity and expertise to handle large-scale projects such as the Montreal Metropolitan Highway. In 1969, the company inaugurated its first rebar fabricating plant in Longueuil, a suburb of Montreal. The new facility made the company more competitive and ushered in a new era of growth.

In 1981, Serge Gendron, an experienced engineer succeeded his father as President of the company. Acier Gendron continued to grow and in 1999 embarked on a series of mergers and acquisitions that have transformed it into AGF Steel. AGF's Canadian network expanded to six plants in Quebec, four in Ontario and

one in Calgary. Internationally, AGF Steel has acquired three companies, Babich International which maintains a plant in Abu Dhabi and operates throughout the Middle and Far East and Armatures des Antilles (Martinique) and Armatures de Guadeloupe which serve the Caribbean market.

Today AGF Steel works around the world on a full range of projects, from local commercial and residential buildings to major highways and large construction projects.

Since its establishment, AGF has installed more than 3 million tons of steel.
